Wendy Williams: Live Leadership Talk

Thursday, October 26, 2017

How You Doin'
When I got the email from Career Services stating that Wendy Williams was coming to Montclair State for a Leadership Talk, without any hesitation, I bolted to get my Eventbrite ticket. To know that Wendy Williams was coming to my school I was so surprised because being at a PWS (Predominantly White School) how often is it that you see a person like yourself, most importantly a Black Woman, talking to students about their success story? Not many.

Wendy's Background Information
Of course many of you guys know that Wendy is a woman of many trades; she is an actor, a radio personality, fashion designer, author, and is also the host for her daytime show, 'The Wendy William Show.' While attending college at Northeastern University, Wendy majored in Communication and minored in Journalism. She was greatly influenced by media personalities Michelle Marsh, Chee Chee Williams, Sue Simmons, and Frankie Crocker. In-between time, she was able to land a solid internship with Matty in the Morning (Kiss 108). With her fiery passion to be successful, Wendy was the only person out of her group of friends who secured an actual career upon leaving college making $11,000 yearly. Contrary to her friends who ended up working retail store post college. Ultimately, Wendy stressed that in college, 'You have to be on your P's and Q's and #BossUp,' and with instilling that in yourself will help you acquire all that you desire.

What is your VISION?
In the leadership talk, Wendy mentioned something that stuck out to me most.
She said, 'What is the lifestyle that you want to live?'
This statement resonated with me because lifestyle is important. In other words, however you vision yourself long term will definitely remind you of the hard work and energy that is required of you to put in to get there. And of course, you'll have those people who are DREAMERS that talk about the life they WISH to live and then you have the GO-GETTERS who WORK for that lifestyle. So Where do you stand? Are you a DREAMER or A GO-GETTER?

Plough A Lone Furrow
"Clear the path so that you can walk your truth, but that walk is most of the time lonely as hell," (Wendy Williams). 99.9% of the time you have to weather the storm that life hits you with by your lonesome. But truth be told, you have learn to access on your own and learn to be your own best friend.

The Hunter Foundation
Outside of media, Wendy and her husband, Kevin Hunter, came together and established a non-profit charitable organization that gives back to those who are in great need. This foundation also supports and partners with programs that deal with drug addictions, poverty, homelessness, the LGBTQ community, and services that provide shelters and food.

In close, Wendy's overall presence and delivery on stage was beyond amazing. Thank you for dropping gems to the people who aspire to be their own boss especially in the field of Entertainment.

See you at the top Ms. Wendy.

How To Be More Feminine

Saturday, October 21, 2017

"God gave woman intuition and femininity. Used properly, the combination easily jumbles the brain of any man I've met," Farrah Fawcett.

I. To Be More Feminine You Must Be Internally Feminine.
This means that who you are at heart should at all times be beautiful.
Spread positivity, gossip less, speak of only kind words, pray more, and pay it forward

II. Wear More Purses
Even when you're underdressed, purses has it's way of making a basic fit more
more GLAM. Personally, I fancy small purses because it serves a
preppy, chic vibe no matter the attire.

III. Nails Done, Hair Done, Everything Did
Maintenance is key.
If possible try to get your nails and hair done as often as possible. I know it gets pretty
tedious in the beginning but after a while you'll grow in the habit of
keeping up with these things.

IV. Prepare 4 Any Divine Encounter
I've come across many females who are so comfortable wearing sweatpants,
bonnets, and etc on a day to day basis in public. I'm not at all saying that
it is a bad thing to wear sleepwear but everyday sis? Nah uh. If you're gonna
dress comfy look cute while doing so. I am a firm believer in the notion that
your appearance speaks greatly upon your character.
So in other words, carry yourself like you care for yourself

V. Smell Good, Look Good
Smelling good honestly makes a person look 10x more attractive.
I light body mist and perfume does the trick.

Embrace your femininity more ladies.
Unlock that power and you'll definitely be an empowered woman.

Chapter 20

Wednesday, October 11, 2017

"Stay patient and enjoy the journey," (anonymous)

Welcome to my Chapter 20 (3:41a.m),
Wow, where do I even begin?
As I'm sitting here trying to recollect my thoughts on my entire existence it brings nothing but tears of joy. I remember just being an adolescent and yearning to be this age. Tuh, how deceiving was my imagination to ever think that being at this pinnacle in my life was any kind of glamorous. But you know what, I learned that you need not to rush the process but to embrace everyday; fully seizing the moment. This past year I lived by this very quote, "Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don't wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it's at work or with your family. Every minute should be enjoyed and savored," (earl nightingale). This, by far one was of the biggest lessons I've possessed; valuing life.

Ultimately, I pray that my 20's is filled with nothing but blessings, new opportunities, networks, a stronger relationship with God, moreover with family and friends.

Cheers to new beginnings! 10/11/97 #Libra
P.S I'm celebrating the whole month so stay alert

#HerCampus:College Fashion Week

Monday, October 2, 2017

"With confidence, you have won before you have started," (Marcus Garvey).

Hey my darlings,
I recently became the Editorial Blogger for Her Campus Media [The Montclair State Chapter] and was then after, invited to go to their College Fashion Week. The event was eventful, literally. From the various vendors that came out down to models that walked out and served fire looks all of which that made the event so animated. I'd like to also thank Ulta Beauty big time for the free goodies that they gave us as well.

Outfit
Into the bargain, I had received many compliments on my outfit. 90% of what I had on came from my favorite store Forever 21, the skirt from H&M, and of course the icing on the cake, my velvet blue Steve Madden thigh knee boots.
Slowly but surely I am mastering the art of what my style is from what works and what doesn't. I can say this much though, my style is headed towards a more preppy, chic vibe with a hint of 90's aesthetics.

My Newfound Friend
Enough of that though, I've been wanting to tell you all about the #GIRLBOSS I had the ultimate pleasure of meeting and if you're reading this I mean every word. My new girlfriend Lataya or as many a know her as the @TheBlackSarahJessica on Instagram is so BOMB. She is such an all around good person. During the event she'd take tons of pictures of myself ensuring that I posed correctly and looked my best. But for the most part we were looking after each other as a friends should do. We were literally hyping each other up. I speak highly about a lot of people but she was beyond amazing. We spoke about crystals, friendships, our aspirations, and a whole lot of other things. Lataya, thank you for being my sidekick for the night, you're the best! <3 We will embark in many more experiences.

Hence, what I took from the whole experience throughout my various conversations with people is that energy is everything and moreover don't question your intuition. Stay blessed darlings <3!
